House Renovations!

When we bought the house 7 years ago, I was not a fan of the color. It had just been painted and there was so many other items to tackle before we even thought about the outside. When we built the addition, we decided we would vinyl side it, and finish the rest of the house the following summer! Pete did an amazing job on the house. This is how he spent his summer.......................
The before picture.
It's time to start this!!
Getting new doors! New meaning to open door policy, haha :)
The final product! Great work Pete!!!
The garage needed a lot of TLC! I told Pete that while he was busy with the house, I would paint the garage! I went to Home Depot with a small piece of siding to match paint and got to work!!
The Before....
Just getting started....
Working hard!!
Almost there.....
I realized that I never took a final shot of the garage all finished.. but you get it ;)

Fire Pit Project

Now that we finally have a backyard again, we knew we wanted to build a permeate fire pit. One afternoon during our vacation, we decided it was time!

Pete went to Home Depot and bought all the stones.
Pete's parents had just made a round  one, so I assumed that is what we would build. He came back with the brochure showing what he thought we should make. I loved it!
Our "helpers"
First he laid out the stones to see where exactly he wanted to place it in the yard.
He then cut out the grass.
He then added paver stone to keep the stones level when he placed them.
Took less then an hour to build and excited it's done! Total cost of this project..$118.00

We love having it! Many S'mores have already been made!

Cinderblock Gardening

Every year we want to plant a garden, and every year we find ourselves distracted by a project. Last fall we planted garlic but that was all we had done, but I still wanted to plant stuff.  I remember seeing on Pinterest someone who put a plant in a cinderblock and thought that was a neat idea! On Father's Day I went down to Home Depot and picked up a few cinderblocks to put on the top of our retaining wall.
I bought 8 cucumber plants.
 Starting to dig....
All my cinderblocks lined up!
My garden assistant Jack :)
We filled them each section with garden soil then planted the cucumbers.
All planted, let's see how they grow!
4 weeks from planting and the cucumber plants are growing great!
Since my cucumbers were doing so well I decided I wanted to try something else. I went to the Farmer Market and bought some lettuce to plant, hoping it's grows just as well!
Anyone have some gardening tips they want to share?!

Our Bed Frame

7 years ago, I saw this bed in the IKEA catalog and told Pete that I wanted to buy it. We were renting our first home together in Falmouth. "Hun, I can build if a bed if you want, it would be much more quality then this!" I was so excited! He went out and got the wood and made the bed frame. "All I need to do is put poly on it."..........7 years ago.

It sat in our garage on Roberts street for a year. Then it was placed in Pam & Joe's garage for the year when we lived with them. This is where the bed frame has sat for the last 5 years........our garage.
So one evening in bed  a few weeks back when yet another comforter was ripped from our bed frame, I got a "little" iterated and mentioned I was going to buy a new frame in the morning. "Why don't I finish the one in the garage?"  he said. "Oh, you mean the one I've been asking about for the last 7 years?! Great idea, I'll belive when I see it!" Well he got to work! Sanding it down.
Adding poly to it.
Yesterday, since he today is spending the day working, he set it up for me so I could have it on Mother's Day. It was all I wanted!
The headboard.
This is the before picture with Jack modeling.
This is the after. My "it took 7 years, made with love, I nagged him quite a bit" bed frame.   I absolutely love it!! Thanks hun. Now onto matching nightstands.... I think I'll just take a trip to the Mill Store for those, hahaha.

Addition Part 5

Almost there! This will be the last post before the final reveal! We started this addition at the beginning of the summer and will be wrapping it up before the end of summer! After all the electrical work was done, the installation went in.
Then it was time to remove the window from the bathroom to frame in that wall and the slider to open the room up to the rest of the house!
We had someone come in to do the sheet rock so that it would be done fast. With the kids we knew it would be hard to try and keep them out. In a few days it was done!
So Friday afternoon Pete and I got right to work priming the room. I started with the roller but was not doing great so I ended up cutting in the room. Not bad except on the high spots...... I was quite nervous!
Since my Mom and Michael aren't so handy :), they offered to buy all the paint we needed for the room. So on Sunday, we headed over to Sherwin-Williams. Thanks so much!
Pete painting the door...
We've started getting ready to lay the floor. The next update will be when the room is done!
What do you think?

Addition Part 4

Another update! Peter has been working hard, and thanks to some great friends, we are moving along great! If you are just tuning in,  you can catch up here, and here, oh, and here!

After the walls went up, Pete got right to work on the rafters. He spent a good chunk of Father's Day with my step-Dad cutting out the rafters. With the help of his Dad & Ben, they put them up the following evening.
Our friend Nick was EXTREMELY helpful getting it finished!
The roof is on! I took the kids down to visit my sister while they roofed the back to be out of the way so there are no photos of that day, but thanks to Pete's Dad, My Dad,Steve Babineau, Ryan Sullivan, & Mike Matheson who all pitched in to help!
I got up on Sunday afternoon while Pete was finishing up to check it out!
We've even drank entertained in our new room, haha
Ben & Pete spent last Sunday & Thursday night getting all the windows & doors in.
It was really hot and were super excited for me to take their picture :)
Our friend Ryan, is starting the electrical work today. Thanks Ryan!
The installation will happen on Thursday and Pete will begin to hang the sheet rock this weekend. Not to much longer before we are really enjoying this room!
