The Perfect Necklace

This is my favorite necklace! I never take it off! When I was pregnant with Jack, I saw Pete's Aunt Jen (Yes, we have the same name, remember?) wearing a necklace with her girls names and birthstones. I loved it and asked where she got it. She told me that she was already ordering one for me with the boys names. I couldn't wait to get it!! She gave it to me the morning of Peter's birthday party and I haven't taken it off since!

My Mom saw the necklace and said she loved it. Since I can never figure out what to get her because she has everything, I immediately knew I would order her one. It's the perfect gift for any mother!! My Mother-in-law is getting one with the grandchildren's names on it Peter, Jack and Cameron. Kathleen of Dimick Designs makes them and they are really affordable! E-mail her at KATHLEENDIMICK@gmail.com to order a necklace. Mention you saw it on the blog!

Cinco de Mayo

It's Cinco de Mayo!! Besides Christmas, I think this is my favorite holiday!! Why? Honestly, I think I just really like the name. Oh, and it brings together some of my favorite things... beer, Mexican food and friends. My husband finds it mildly disturbing that I get so excited for this day. He chose not to participate in the 5:45am photo shoot that the rest of us wanted to do. OK, so I was really the only one, but the kids and the dog have no choice, haha!

I started celebrating Cinco de Mayo in college. The horrible dining hall at NEC would serve tacos and it was another excuse to drink(my liver is still feeling the effects of my college experience). I have celebrated every year Mexican style, except for the one year I was so excited to go to On The Border near the mall because it had just opened and everyone else in Cumberland County had the same idea so, that year I celebrated at the Olive Garden. After that depressing experience, I decided to have it at home every year and invite friends over. I always assumed that Cinco de Mayo was a huge holiday in Mexico. The whole country shut down, parades were everywhere, Corona flowed like water and they celebrated their equivalent to July 4th. Late last night I made a run to Hannaford for some Avocados that I forgot to buy. When talking to the cashier(come on, I talk to every one) she mentioned something about it being the day of the dead. WHAT?? I realized I loved this "holiday" and I had no idea about it. Time for my favorite source in life... Wikipedia!

I go online and the first thing I read is, Not to be confused with Mexican Independence Day, which occurs on September 16. Yep, I was the one confused. Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a Mexican civic holiday held on May 5 that commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza SeguĂn. It is celebrated primarily in the state of Puebla and in the United States. While Cinco de Mayo sees limited significance in Mexico itself, the date is observed nationwide mostly in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. So basically one small area of Mexico and the US celebrate.

In the United States Cinco de Mayo has taken on a significance beyond that in Mexico. The date is perhaps best recognized in the United States as a date to celebrate the culture and experiences of Americans of Mexican ancestry, much as St. Patrick's Day, Oktoberfest, and the Chinese New Year are used to celebrate those of Irish, German, and Chinese ancestry respectively. Similar to those holidays, Cinco de Mayo is observed by many Americans regardless of ethnic origin. Even dogs celebrate :)

We're celebrating at daycare today! I'm going to have all the kids color Sombrero's. Then I will attach them to a photo I took of them. They will go home with a picture of them self wearing a Sombrero, I love it! We'll also enjoy some chicken nachos today at lunch! We'll call nap time a siesta!

From our house to yours, Happy Cinco de Mayo!!!

Hi, My Name is.....

..... Jennifer Wescott. Yes, in this photo we are all named Jennifer Wescott. This was the last photo taken before Jenny got married and she is now Jennifer Wescott McInnis. Here's the story... Pete's parents had Jenny. A few years later, Pete's Uncle John marries Jen. Many years later I come along and marry Pete making three Jennifer Wescott's in the same family. We are known in the family as Jenny, Jen & Murph. It can be confusing! I lived at Pete's parents house for a year before we bought the house and after we were married sometimes I would still get mail their as Jennifer Wescott and Jenny would get mail their as Jennifer Wescott. Many years ago Jen went to deposit a check into her bank account and it got deposited into Jenny's account(I now use the same bank as well). Jen's daughter went to pick up photos one time and didn't check. She went home with my photos. Both Jen and I both have home daycares in Westbrook, we both get our prescriptions at CVS and we confuse a lot of people! I use to joke when I was pregnant with Jack, if it was a girl we were going to name her Jennifer! Some people actually thought I was serious!

... my name is Peter Wescott. Yes, every person in this photo is named Peter Wescott! I think it is so amazing that there are 4 generations living with the name.I always try and get a picture when the 4 are together and I think all 4 get annoyed when I make them pose, haha. I love the thought of carrying on family names so,I knew as soon as we found out that Peter was a boy that I wanted to carry on the tradition. I though it was such a gift to be able to do that for my son. I love the history behind his name and I think very highly of the three that came before him. So far I haven't had to deal with much confusion with the two living at my house, though sometimes when I yell for a Peter, they both come, LOL!

Usually I would say only in Maine, but in this case should I say.... only in the Wescott family????

Menu Plan Monday

I start back to work today...full time. This maternity leave has been quite different then my first. Even though I took eight weeks "off", I have still made the meals for the daycare daily, check in downstairs at least twice a day and heard parents coming & going. However, I have still had quite Fridays. This week Feels Like Home opens again on Fridays. Things are starting to get a little easier but it being my first week back, I'm going to stick with my simple theme! I love reading other people's blogs and I really enjoy Mindi's. She is a girl I went to high school with and she also does menu planning. She introduced me to Meal Makeover Moms. I got one of their books from the library and really like some of their meals, very easy to make!

Monday: "Mom, the House Smells Great" Roasted Chicken(from MMM)
Tuesday: Sloppy Joe's
Wednesday: Fast As Boxed Macaroni Cheese(from MMM)
Thursday: Cinco de Mayo!! Chicken Enchildas
Friday: Takeout :)

I'm at Target and saw this bib. Love it!! However, Jack has so many bibs, that I am not going to buy it. However, if it was on a t-shirt I would buy one for both boys!!
