Winter Weekend

A few weekends ago, we got to spend a weekend with Ben & Bethany up at their camp in Bridgton. I'm just getting around to posting, but Bethany has come great photos on her blog also! We all enjoyed it so much that we hope to do it again in February! It was the most relaxed I had felt in awhile :)
Peter got to go ice fishing for the first time with Ben & Pete. He liked it a lot!
Bethany and I took Jack and Mackenna onto Highland Lake purely for photo purposes :)
Our first family photo attempt of 2012!
The boys enjoying a sled ride from Daddy :)
Bethany and Mackenna relaxing before dinner. We had Chicken club sandwiches, they were so good!

Peter LOVES Ben! It's actually really cute to see him think of him as his friend and Ben is so great with him. Peter had a blast wrestling with Ben, this is when he gave him the people's elbow, LOL!
Next up for the friends, playing and fixing helicopters

On Sunday morning, we woke up and took a walk in the woods toward a site where they are cutting down trees, It was a beautiful morning!
You can imagine how excited Peter was when we came out of the woods and saw the logging operation!
family photo time!
we managed to get ours, right before Jack fell asleep!
As you can see, 30 seconds later, Jack fell asleep :)
Mackenna enjoyed the walk :)

Thanks again Ben, Bethany & Mackenna! Heading home after a great walk.... and a nice weekend :)

Ambulance Ride

Well... we had quite the morning. This is one for the book. Pete left early to go ice fishing at my parents house. Both boys woke early and we were playing in the living room. I made myself a cup of tea, like every morning. I don't like to drink hot tea so usually it's not that hot.  Today, I got distracted because of playing so it was a bit more hot then usual. I made the tea and placed the cup on the table in the living room.  No more then 30 seconds later, Jack reached up and grab it! Before I could get him or the cup it spilled onto him. I ran him into the bathroom, ripped his pjs off and got cold water onto him. I called Pete right away. He called his parents to come get Peter, when they showed up we decided to call the resue just to be safe.

In we went!
When we got to the hospital it looked a lot better then it had at the house. The nurses loved Jack! He of course was hamming it up, showing all of his cute tricks :)
Jack playing with Dr. Jack! The doctor couldn't believe how active he is for his age! We explained to him that we call him the menace and he laughed. "I guess he's living up to his name!" he said! Luckily Jack only had two small burn areas. We are treating it with antibiotic cream.  It was much more of a scary morning for Pete and I then Jack. We are very lucky that he was not hurt more. I feel so fortunate. I've learned my lesson!

Ice Fishing

Poppi, Pete and Peter setting up some ice traps.

This morning we went up to Nonni and Poppi's to do some ice fishing. Pete really enjoys going every winter and was looking forward to taking Peter this year. We took him when we were up at Ben & Bethany's camp(that post is coming!) and he really liked it! Peter thought it would be good to go to my parents so that he could go inside whenever he needed to. Jack and I enjoyed being inside and spending time with Auntie Laura who had come up to help with Nonni's surgery. It was a great way to spend the morning!

Pork Chops & Potatoes

Monday Night we had my Mom over for dinner. She is having surgery on Wednesday to repair her knee. She torn her menicus while playing hopscotch with Gwen! With Michael traveling I want to make her week as easy as possible. I got the orignal recipe here, but decided to change it a bit. We used dijon mustard instead of yellow and bone in chops instead of boneless. We also did a side we enjoy often in the winter that is super easy to make!

Brown Sugar/Mustard Pork Chops
Ingredients
6 bone in pork chops
1/3 cup dijon mustard
1/2 cup brown sugar

Directions:
Mix mustard and sugar. Pour over pork chops. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes or until cooked through.

Potatoes
Ingredients
4-5 red potatoes
1 package of onion soup mix
1 onion
1 package of frozen Hannaford carrots
EVOO

Directions:
Cut potatoes & onion and put into large bowl. Coat with EVOO and toss. Add onion soup mix and carrots. Cook at 425 for about 45 minutes.

Number of Servings: 6

My Organizing Mission

I have a crush....her name is Jen. She has this blog called I heart organizing and because of her blog, I heart her. My mission for 2012. Get organized! Those who know me well, know that I live in a small home and that I have A LOT of crap things I "need". Pete keeps saying if I bring one more thing into this house, he is going to call A&E to get me on their show Hoarders. Luckily I haven't seen him filming my casting tape yet :) I have organizing projects planned for all three bedrooms(mine is in need of some serious help), pantry, bathroom closet and basement!

Last year, Bethany and I went down to IKEA in MA. We decided to go again this year and realized we were going on the same weekend we had gone last year! We decided this trip will have to be an annual thing! I had a list of things I wanted to help in my organization mission and Bethany was getting stuff to build this! We left early on Sunday morning ready to shop!

We pulled down the road IKEA is located on and saw this sign on the entrance to the Christmas Tree Shop. We had to stop!! I got a few storage bins to put in Peter's closet.. and a few things I "needed".
There it is!!! If you haven't been before, you've got to get there!

Bethany loading up her cart!

So many organizing decisions to make! We were there for 2 1/2 hours!
You can imagine Pete's face when I arrived home with my goodies, then found out I needed him to help me put some of them together! Peter however was very excited to get his tools out to help!

You can't see what Pete is saying at this point but, I don't think I should repeat it on the blog, LOL! I bought a shoe bench and a wall coat rack for the living room. The kicker of it is that I bought a coat rack to put on our wall and because of IKEA's sizing, it won't work because it doesn't match up on studs. So now we have to disassemble it! Picture a happy Pete :)

I put together a shoe rack I got for our bedroom closet. This is why Pete usually puts the stuff together!

Before: This is what our shoes and hats looked like!
After: My new shoe bench! Pete actually thought this was a good purchase!

Since the wall coat rack I got at IKEA won't work, I found this on Amazon that I am going to order to go above the shoe bench.
I got a few bins to organize above the fridge. Already looks cleaner!

My pantry. I got a lazy Susan for my spices! It is so much easier using this already!
stay tuned for more of my organizing projects!
